Very cool: Letterpress iPad App

About 2 months ago, I had the idea for this app running through my brain. The iPad is the perfect format for playing with type. No need to tie on a shop apron or cleanup the ink...

Seems someone else was thinking about it too. I will be installing it for sure.

Pinchflat Bicycle Poster Blow-out

Wild Goose Creative, in partnership with Yay Bikes!Fulcrum Creatives, and Jeremy Slagle Design, announces a call for entries to a bicycle-inspired poster show called Pinchflat. Posters will be displayed and sold at Wild Goose Creative (2491 Summit Street, Columbus) and pinchflatcolumbus.com starting with a poster party on Saturday, May 14, 2011 and continuing through June 17.

All posters will be created by artists in Columbus or central Ohio. Artwork included in the poster show will encourage bike riding, celebrate the art and craft of bikes, or invite thought about bikes as an important way to get around Columbus. Pinchflat is intended to be a fun, creative, celebratory approach to cycling.

God with us

I've never designed a tattoo before. I've been asked by many friends and others over the years and I've always declined. Mostly because I would rather leave that sort of thing up to the experts--there are a lot of amazing tattoo artists around. Also because it's very permanent. I mean, it's going on someone's body. It just seems a little scary.

But when a friend approached me at Christmas and asked me to give her a custom piece of type, I couldn't resist. Emmanuel means "God with us." Seemed appropriate for the Christmas season. She asked for a custom script face and something that looks hand-drawn and somewhat imperfect. So here it is. Hope you like it Cole.

I'll try to upload some photos and video of her getting inked. Stay tuned.

I started out with a pencil sketch and did the final with a waterbrush filled with fountain pen ink to give it a rough analog feel.

My work in a new book

Graphic Design Inspirations by Daab one HUGE book.

Seriously. It weighs 12.5 lbs, has over 700 pages, 12x12 cover and over 2.5 inches thick! It's so big that I comes with a carrying case and handle. It just may have it's own gravitational pull. I think I may have seen my miniature poodle orbiting it earlier today.

Aside from a couple pages of introduction, there is no other copy throughout, just 700 pages of inspiring work from around the world. You can get it at Amazon. Despite the $90 price tag, it does not qualify for free shipping due to its vastness.

There are a few projects in it by me and my friends. It's worth picking up a copy--just be sure to lift with your legs.

Website Updates

Over the holidays I have been updating my site--adding new projects, cleaning things up and getting ready for 2011--where I reslove to post, tweet and facebook more. So, take a few minutes and poke around. You'll find some fun new stuff.

Happy New Year.
